Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, poverty is deep and widespread, with nearly half of the population living on less than one dollar per day. It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with approximately 160 million people residing in an area of about 147,570 square kilometers.

Due to its geographical location near the Gulf region, which connects to South Asia, Bangladesh is a significant hub for human trafficking. A UNICEF report indicates that around 400 women and children in Bangladesh fall victim to trafficking each month. Another study reveals that approximately 300,000 Bangladeshi children and women between the ages of 12 and 30 have been trafficked to India alone over the past decade. It is also estimated that nearly 200,000 Bangladeshi girls and women have been sold in Pakistan. These statistics highlight the severe issue of human trafficking in Bangladesh.

WM is collaborating with other NGOs to provide shelter for children rescued from human trafficking and the sex trade.
