Somalia is a war-torn country that faces many humanitarian and developmental challenges. Its civil war is one of Africa’s oldest wars and after 20 years of crisis, the country is unstable and dangerous. The ongoing armed conflict in parts of the country and intense, persistent droughts worsen its situation. With a population of approximately 11 million people, 2.6 million are displaced and a total of 5.4 million require humanitarian assistance.
However, Somalia also has substantial potential, which includes a young population, some stability in parts of the country, expressive fishery resources, and booming telecommunications sector and mobile banking sector. The country faces enormous challenges, but there is potential and hope for the future.
WM is working in Somalia since 2011 provinding humanitarian assistance, food distribution and health clinics to IDPs (Internally Displaced People).
