Thailand

Thailand is a constitutional monarchy with a population of about 66 million. With its pro-investment policies, a well-developed infrastructure and a free-enterprise economy, it has made significant progress in social and economic development, so much of the country is well developed. Thailand is a famous tourist destination with its beautiful beaches and landscapes. Unfortunately, evidence shows children are sexually exploited through the abusive use of development and facilities available in the flourishing tourist industry. It is a source, transit and destination country for children trafficked for sexual exploitation. Thailand has more than 123,530 sex workers, according to a 2014 UNAIDS report. Of these, at least 40 per cent are under 18.

WM is working in partnership with other NGOs providing shelter for children rescued from human trafficking and the sex trade. It also addresses the causes of the issue by working among the low-income communities where children are at risk, providing vocational training and scholarships.
